Skjei has been brutal in the NHL and makes more $ than Reilly - pass on this deal. If Carolina has a boner for Nylander - let them pay Hamilton - a bit soft, has size and skill - can learn to play tougher.

Skeij is an add in in any deal.
He is not a main piece. He is a project. |

Agree !!! Adding $10 million in cap knowing what is happening next year isn't in the cards, escpecially when you do not signifiantly improve talent level. Kreider is a rental and he's past his best days imo. And his best days - 53 points not comparable to what will be expected of Nylander. Hard no

All signs point to this not happening.
I would be very surprised. |

Yup.
I am looking at Carolina...I'll say it now. Willie will be a Hurricane within two weeks.
A not so close but realistic second to LA..They want a shakeup and may be willing to be stupid about it. |

Phaneuf. Just so we can say he's still Ottawas highest paid defenseman when we play them. I hear his DJ skills are missed too. |

Not that Leafs fans want it. But I think Muzzin, Pearson starter pack was mentioned. But I would have to Imagine LA is offering for starters one of Muzzin/Amart, Pearson and who knows what. I would hate to see Clauge get packaged. Many believe hes the real deal and kind of sets LA back if he gets traded. But who knows. I'd Love to see LA land Nylander. But not sure how it would work out. Esp when a team like Carolina has real nice pieces. I suppose as time runs out It's going to be whichever team is more desperate to add more. |

I agree that Carolina is more likely. I don't see a good match with LA. They are slow as (frank) and with the level of analytics being used by management I doubt they want to add slow ass players. Choice two for me would probably be Minnesota. They could move Dumba plus a pick/prospect. Their offense is sh!t.

I bet the Leafs will regret trading Nylander(Regardless of return for him) once it becomes apparent that Matthews is injury-plagued and unable to fulfill the role of a no. 1 centre on account of being on the LTIR too much.
At this point with Auston's health a serious issue I would just give him a deal in the 7-7.5 range and then wait and see what happens with Matthews. I bet he misses more time this season and we end up having to move him instead because he's just too unreliable. |

Matthews does not have a serious issue. He's had a couple of shoulder issues, which will be addressed with equipment and training modification IMO. He's the most talented player on this team. I don't recall the Leafs ever having a player of Matthews' talent level. It would seem very unlikely anyone in management would let either him or Marner go.

Yes - Dougie was a great Leaf, his skill set was more along the lines of Marner. Matthews is at a different level IMO. Dougie's shot wasn't lazer like with pinpoint accuracy. He was the hardest worker - puck pursuit type of player - much like Marner (and a bit meaner, and tougher than Marner - but Marner has time to improve on that)

Minny might not want to shakeup their roster too much but will have to.
Signings Nylander long term will put him at a 9-9.7 million cap hit this season. Minny can’t afford that.
Carolina is truly the best trading partner.
They have the cap space and the pieces. |

All it would take is one more LTIR trip, not even shoulder related, hell it could be one more concussion and all of sudden that becomes an issue.
A potentially 12-13m$ issue |

Wrong. From someone who actually knows wha they are talking about instead of some random guy on HB....
Most of the time when they’re talking about a separated shoulder, they’re talking about the AC joint,” said Dr. Ron Noy, a highly regarded orthopedic surgeon based out of Manhattan who has treated many NHL players with shoulder injuries over the years. “It’s a grade one or two sprain for the most part in professional athletes. You’re just waiting for the inflammation to come down, and it should be fine.”
Most importantly, the injury is not the type that’s considered to typically be chronic or recurring. It also shouldn’t cause Matthews to lose any strength or ability in his dominant hand and arm — as a left shot — beyond the short recovery period.
The fact Matthews has had shoulder injuries twice in back-to-back seasons is likely more an unfortunate circumstance than anything to worry about long term.
“This is purely a traumatic (impact) thing,” Dr. Noy said. “It’s common in hockey. It’s not something that anybody else wouldn’t have gotten an injury on with the exact same mechanism. I don’t think it’s of any concern about his future, like he’s going to be an injury problem (consistently) at all.
“I’d be more concerned if his shoulder dislocated. As a 21-year-old, if you dislocate your shoulder, and you have a labral tear, then more than likely, he would have needed his labrum fixed (surgically to prevent it from becoming a chronic issue) … But this isn’t a genetic thing. It didn’t look like that kind of injury. He just looks like he’s in some pain.” |

I agree - Carolina is the best option, but Minnesota is no worse off cap-wise than LA your other suggestion, in fact they have lots of room next year. They could shed a contract or two to make it work.
Also about Minny - they are paying Ennis almost as much as Staal to not play for them. |
